My Books of 2013

This page will have short reviews of the books I read in 2013. The rating is the same as on Amazon (love, like, ok, don’t like, hate)

TODO Contagious

TODO Resilience

TODO Justice

TODO What money can’t buy

Title 15. The Historical Atlas of New York City: A Visual Celebration of 400 Years of New York City’s History
Author Eric Homberger
Rating 3.0/5
Review/
Summary
Nice summary of the long history of New York. A lot of maps with statistics which can get a bit boring. I have the idea the early periods (pre 1900) get a bit more attention
Title 14. Base Building for Cyclists: A New Foundation for Endurance and Performance
Author Thomas Chapple
Rating 4.0/5
Review/
Summary
Pretty good guide for beginners and experienced cyclists. Also acts as a reference guide and I really liked the nice extras like how to jump with your racing bike and braking tips.
Title 13. What Money Can’t Buy: The Moral Limits of Markets
Author Michael J. Sandel
Rating 4.5/5
Review/
Summary
Great book. A lot more information and perspectives than I expected. It really gave me new insights
Title 12. How Will You Measure Your Life? [Kindle Edition]
Authors Clayton M. Christensen, James Allworth, Karen Dillon
Rating 3.0/5
Review/
Summary
Title 11. The Works: Anatomy of a City
Author Kate Ascher
Rating 4/5
Review/
Summary
Great book, just for the illustrations alone. Mainly handles New York which is sometimes a bit different than in Europe.
Title 9. Grooming, Gossip and the Evolution of Language [Kindle Edition]
Author Robin Dunbar
Rating 4/5
Review/
Summary
Great book on why we have language and why animals don’t. A lot of the subject I already read in other books (who of course referenced to Dunbars book).

8. the longer tail 3/5

7. paradox of choice 5/5
6. geography of time 4.5/5
5. honest truth about dishonesty 4.5/5
4. art of explaining

Titel 3. De kracht van Scrum – Een inspirerend verhaal over een revolutionaire projectmanagementmethode
Auteurs Eelco Rustenburg & Rini Van Solingen
Rating 3.5/5
Review/
Samenvatting
Goede introductie voor Scrum in een leuk verhaal gegoten. Erg snel uitgelezen. Was natuurlijk al redelijk thuis in Scrum, maar toch goed om wat dingen in je geheugen op te frissen.
Title 2. Impact Mapping: Making a big impact with software products and projects
Author Gojko Adzic
Rating 3.5/5
Review/
Summary
Not sure yet what to think about it. Definitely a good concept, but not too detailed.
Title 1. The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character, and Achievement
Author David Brooks
Rating 3/5
Review/
Summary
The book is a story about two people which is a bit odd for this kind of book. It was a nice read but a bit too shallow. I’m writing this review a few days after I read the book and I already forgot much of it.
